Sometimes you find yourself face-to-face with situations so awful that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer extent of unadulterated absurdity and just resigns itself to fate, opting for laughter as a coping mechanism.
But then, you remember that it's not really funny. It's just plain terrible. And the laughter you felt morphs into a groan.
Ultimately, you are left with a sense of confusion. You start ruminating about the meaning of it all. Was this intended to be funny?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?
Tragedy of Epic Proportions

Worst Day Ever
It all started with a terrible case of terrible hair. I couldn't make it to look decent. As I was scrambling out the door, I fell and with a thud all over myself. To make matters worse, I was totally running behind for school.

A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
